Asha Parekh was born on 2 October 1942 in a Gujarati family, in a very religious environment. She is a multitalented person who worked as an Indian actress, film director, and producer in Hindi films.

Known as one of Hindi cinema’s finest actresses, Asha Parekh has worked in more than 85 films, spanning over four decades. She has received many Filmfare awards and has even been honoured with Padma Shri by the Government of India.

Parekh received the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her role in Kati Patang. In 2002, she was presented with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. Her book “The Hit Girl” came out in 2017.

Early Life:

Asha Parekh is a Gujarati born on October 2, 1942. Her father, Bachubhai Parekh, was a Hindu Gujarati, and her mother, Sudha, also known as Salma Parekh, was a Bohri Muslim.

Her mother engaged her in Indian traditional dance classes at a young age, and she studied under several teachers, including Pandit Bansilal Bharati.

Carrier:

As a young performer, Asha Parekh debuted in Maa (1952). After starring in Dil Deke Dekho (1959), .She went on to become a well-known actress in the 1960s and 1970s, appearing in movies like Caravan (1971), Samadhi (1972), Heera (1973), Udhar Ka Sindur (1976), Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki (1978), Upkar (1967), Kanyadaan (1968), Shikar (1968), Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke (1969), Kati Patang (1970), Aan Milo Sajna (1970).

She established Akruti Productions and went on to produce comedies like Dal Mein Kaala and serials like Palash ke Phool, Baaje Payal, and Kora Kagaz. From 1994 to 2000, she presided over the Cine Artistes’ Association as its president.

Parekh served as the Central Board of Film Certification’s (India’s Censor Board) first female chair. She was not paid for her tenure in 1998–2001, but she faced a great deal of controversy for her decision to censor movies and refuse to give the go-ahead for Shekhar Kapur’s Elizabeth. She then rose to the position of treasurer for the Cine and Television Artists Association (CINTAA) and was chosen to hold one of its offices.

Asha Parekh is focusing on Kara Bhavan, her dancing academy, these days. Because of her donation towards the medical and surgical wing, she now has a hospital in Santacruz, Mumbai, named the “BCJ Hospital and Asha Parekh Research Centre”.She claimed that the hospital had closed and reopened on several occasions.
